Twice a world silver medallist in e-cycling, Brazilian rider Gabriela Guerra has set herself an incredible challenge at the age of 32: making the transition from e-cycling to road racing. She will take on this new challenge in Cofidis colours, having signed with the team for the next two seasons.

It’s an incredible story, just the sort that sports and cycling enthusiasts love so much. Gabriela Guerra’s life is like a TV series, a soap opera that will see her, from next season onwards, competing in the most prestigious races in professional women’s cycling. It’s a story that takes her through Brazil, where she grew up; Germany, where she has a home away from home; and the United States, where she has settled.

From exercise bikes to road races

Having spent her childhood in Brazil, it was in Germany that she began to make a name for herself as a teenager. Gabriela made quite an impression back then, though not so much for her cycling skills. It was actually on a skateboard that she enjoyed herself and shared her fun with thousands of fans via her YouTube channel.  “It taught me tenacity and resilience,” she says. As an adult, she set up a business operating between her home country and Germany.

In her spare time, the young woman – who is very sporty, went on numerous mountain bike rides with friends. Gabriela proved to be particularly talented and began taking part in competitions, notably in the United States, where she secured several victories. It was in Germany, whilst she was there for the winter, that she discovered cycling on a home trainer. She took to it so much that she began competing and climbing the ranks. Gabriela won races and also distinguished herself at the UCI World Championships, where she secured two silver medals.

A lover of challenges and a sportswoman through and through, the Brazilian has no intention of stopping there. Last September, she took up road cycling. “I wanted to see how it would go, to see if I could transfer the skills I’d developed on the exercise bike to road cycling.” She signed up with the German Wheel Divas Cycling Team for the rest of the season.

And it’s paid off: the Brazilian has claimed victory twice – first in Germany at the Riderman, then in France at the Mirabelle Classic. These performances have boosted her confidence and left her looking forward to next season with enthusiasm. Her future lies with the Cofidis team, which she’s joining with a great deal of enthusiasm and motivation. We can’t wait for the next chapter in her incredible story!

They SAID

Gabriela Guerra:

“I’m very curious and really excited about joining Cofidis. I want to find out whether I can transfer my strengths from e-cycling to the road. The few races I took part in towards the end of the season gave me confidence and caught Cofidis’ attention. It’s a challenge I’m really keen to take on. I don’t have any particular apprehensions, just a huge amount of enthusiasm. I can’t wait to start the season, give my very best, help the team and discover the very highest level of road racing. It’s going to be a fantastic challenge!”

Raphael Jeune, sport manager :
"“We are very enthusiastic and excited to see how Gabriela will take on this incredible challenge. Towards the end of the season, she demonstrated a real determination to succeed, as well as some very promising qualities on the road. Naturally, this makes us really keen to work with her ahead of next season. We will do everything we can to help her progress through the ranks and show us the same level of ability on the road as she has demonstrated in e-sport, where she is a world silver medallist. We can’t wait to see her compete in her next races in the Cofidis jersey!”
