Cofidis wrapped up its Tour of Guangxi with the queen stage, featuring a summit finish that proved decisive for the general classification. While Jamie Meehan was unable to compete with the top climbers, the team leaves China with two impressive WorldTour stage wins.

The sixth and final stage of the Tour of Guangxi delivered its verdict at the summit of the final climb at Nongla Scenic Spot. The top climbers battled it out there for positions in the general classification.
In this showdown, Jamie Meehan finished in 31st place. Unfortunately, the Cofidis rider lacked the physical strength needed to keep up with the best on this decisive climb. This result leaves the team wanting more in the general classification.
Despite this final, more challenging stage, the week’s overall outcome remains very positive for Cofidis. The team secured two stage victories in this WorldTour event, with Milan Fretin prevailing against a particularly strong field of sprinters. These successes reward the team’s collective effort and allow them to conclude the season on a high note.

The reaction

Benjamin Giraud, sports director:
“Today, unfortunately, things didn’t go our way like they have in recent days. The peloton was bunched up at the base of the final climb. It came down to the climbers on that climb, where we didn’t have the physical strength to compete. So, unfortunately, we’re still a little disappointed with our position in the general classification.
The overall assessment of the week is, of course, positive, with two magnificent stage victories here in the WorldTour, thanks to a great lineup of sprinters. It’s a bit of a shame—we would have liked to be able to say the same about a Top 10 finish in the general classification.”
