On a course that favored sprinters, Cofidis had made Milan Fretin its trump card for the finish in Hong Kong. Despite the team’s collective effort to put him in the best possible position, the Belgian was unable to fully capitalize on his chances in the final stretch.
Held on a 100-kilometer circuit, the Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon concluded with a sprint finish, as expected. For this 1.1-category race, the Cofidis team had pinned its hopes on Milan Fretin, on a course that suited his strengths. The team worked collectively to support him and position him as best as possible as the finish line approached.
Unfortunately, the final kilometers prevented the Belgian sprinter from fully participating in the final showdown. Cofidis thus leaves Hong Kong without a significant result, despite a well-tailored strategy and the full commitment of the entire team.
The team will now turn its attention to its upcoming events, notably the Tour of Guangxi, which begins on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
The reaction
Benjamin Giraud, DS : "The plan was for Milan Fretin to go for a sprint today. We’d lined him up on a course that suits him well. He ran into some trouble in the final stretch, which prevented him from joining the final sprint, two kilometers from the finish.
It’s a shame because the team worked hard to position him well. Unfortunately, we’re leaving Hong Kong without any significant results."
