The team held its own at the Tre Valli Varesine, which was contested at a very high level. Although not part of the five-rider breakaway that formed early in the race, the team remained well positioned in a tightly bunched peloton. Behind them, Dylan Teuns held on to the leading group of around thirty riders, whilst Yaël Joalland and Sylvain Moniquet finished just behind, in the second group.

The reaction

Gerrikagoitia Gorka, sporting director:

“With such a strong field at the start, it was a very tough race, on a par with the Tour of Emilia or the Tour of Lombardy.

Our aim was to make the early breakaway; Sergio Samitier was already at the front yesterday, so there was no question of him going out there again today. I’d asked why not try to get some visibility in the breakaway, but we didn’t manage to make the right move, three riders broke away, then two others joined them.
The favourites’ teams then controlled the race and it all came down to the final lap, where three riders broke away to contest the finish. Louis Rouland finished in the first group, comprising around thirty riders. He was very strong today, as you have to be at your very best to finish with a group like that. Yaël Joalland and Sylvain Moniquet, in the second group, also put in a fine performance.

Faced with such stiff competition, it’s difficult to secure a result, but I’m pleased with the team’s performance; they performed well.”
