Already making a name for himself at the CRO Race, Sam Maisonobe confirmed his strong form in Lombardy. Having joined the breakaway more than 110 kilometers from the finish, the Cofidis rider fought for the win until the very end and secured an impressive 5th-place finish.
Held around Lissone, the Coppa Agostoni featured a demanding 166.7-kilometer course with nearly 3,000 meters of elevation gain. These conditions allowed Sam Maisonobe to once again showcase his strong form.
Already in 4th place in the overall standings of the CRO Race last week, the Frenchman quickly took the initiative by joining the decisive breakaway more than 110 kilometers from the finish. With this early advantage, he was able to enter the final stretch with the leading group and join the battle for victory.
At the end of a demanding day on the roads of Lombardy, Sam Maisonobe ultimately finished in 5th place. It was another solid performance that confirms his current momentum.
The reaction
Gorka Gerrikagoitia: “We went in with the idea of always staying one step ahead on this challenging course. Sam was incredibly active from the moment we hit the course, always anticipating the next move, always one step ahead. In the end, he came through to win.
I think we can be happy with Sam’s result and his performance, especially after the minor illness he had this week. Tomorrow, we’re off to the Coppa Bernocchi, a completely different race.”
