Stanisław Aniołkowski finished second in the Omloop van het Houtland following a bunch sprint. Well supported in the final stretch by his team-mates, the Polish sprinter managed to slip into the leading group to claim a place on the podium in this Belgian race. The day was also marked by an attack from trainee rider Joseph Brookes, who broke away from the peloton as part of a trio some thirty kilometres from the finish.

“We’re delighted with Stan’s fine second place behind Merlier; I’m really pleased for him: he only returned to competition a week ago, and to see him back on the podium already is very encouraging. Piet did a good job of getting him into the final stretch, and our trainee Joseph showed real initiative. We wanted to put the sprinters’ teams under pressure to tire them out as much as possible before the finish. Everyone worked well to support Stan!”
