The Grand Prix d’Isbergues ended in a bunch sprint after a day during which Cofidis played an active role in chasing down the breakaway. Piet Allegaert and Alexis Renard finished 7th and 9th respectively, while Milan Fretin was involved in a crash with three kilometres to go.
The 80th edition of the Grand Prix d’Isbergues was raced at a fast pace. After a four-rider breakaway formed, Cofidis contributed to the chase to keep the gap under control. With 30 kilometres remaining, the leaders had just a 55-second advantage, before the final two breakaway riders were eventually caught with five kilometres to go.
With the peloton back together, the team organised around Milan Fretin to prepare for the sprint. The Cofidis lead-out was taking shape when Milan unfortunately crashed with three kilometres to go. In the final sprint, Piet Allegaert took 7th place, just ahead of Alexis Renard in 9th. Milan is currently undergoing further medical examinations. We will provide an update on his condition soon.

“Obviously, it’s not easy. The team did a great job all day to bring back a breakaway that was quite strong. Everyone worked really well and the lead-out was coming together nicely in the final. The riders followed the plan we had in place to lead Milan out for the sprint.
Unfortunately, Milan crashed with three kilometres to go. At the moment, we don’t have any further information about his condition. He hit his head and also injured his shoulder. He will undergo further medical examinations to find out more.”
