Following a race in which Alex Kirsch was part of the breakaway right up until the final 15 kilometres, the Flanders Championship concluded with a bunch sprint. Piet Allegaert finished in 6th place, securing his best result of the season.
An 800-metre climb – that was what awaited the riders today. A completely flat course, but one that could hold several pitfalls; the first was the wind.
Right from the start, Alex Kirsch broke away and quickly built up a small lead. He remained in the lead until the final 15 kilometres, when the peloton finally caught up. The finish was marked by a crash and a great deal of tension. As the sprint approached, Stan found himself boxed in and Piet Allegaert decided to make his move. He finished 6th – his best performance of the season – having worked all year to support his sprinters.

We didn’t bring him back because we thought that, with the wind, a large group would be able to break away and catch up with him. On the final lap, the peloton came back together and we decided to give Piet Allegaert free rein, as Stan is only just returning to competition. Piet made the most of it and put in a very good solo sprint. We can be pleased with his performance and his current form.”
