Cofidis’ women’s team continues to reveal its ambitions for the future. The team has signed Célia Le Mouël, with the 26-year-old Breton, the reigning French time trial champion, continuing to make progress and reach new milestones. The second new signing after Clémence Lamitier, she will be one of the team’s new faces for the next two seasons.
She caught many people by surprise last June in the sweltering conditions at the French Championships in La Tour-du-Pin. In the highly demanding time trial, Célia Le Mouël upset the favourites to claim the national title. A victory that reflects her continued progress, having already competed in the Tour de France four times and secured a host of top-ten finishes.
A broad skill set to shine on every type of terrain
When describing herself, Célia calls herself “a fairly complete rider”, a “rouleur and puncheur”, adding that she is “also a time trial specialist now”. Yet Célia has a much broader skill set, with the endurance to go toe-to-toe with the best on demanding courses that take their toll on the body. In her new colours, she is therefore looking to continue developing and show the peloton that she can shine in more than just time trials.
At 26, the French rider is setting no limits for herself: “There are races that I dream of, the Tour de France of course, but also one-day races such as Strade Bianche and Liège-Bastogne-Liège… These races that are decided by attrition are the ultimate goal for me!” A competitive mindset that already fits perfectly with the mentality instilled by Cofidis riders since the start of the year.
They said
Célia Le Mouël:
“Cofidis is exactly the team I was looking for. It’s a well-established team with a strong history in both the women’s and men’s peloton. Cofidis is currently in a really good place, and you can feel the desire to keep improving by putting an even greater emphasis on performance. When I spoke to Raphaël Jeune, I was quickly convinced and I really connected with his vision. I can’t wait to join the team, continue improving and give everything I have to make the team shine and ensure that we race aggressively in every race. I’d like to thank Cofidis for putting their trust in me, as well as my family, my partner, my coach and everyone who supports me every day. I wouldn’t be able to perform at my best on the road without them, and I hope to reach another milestone next year.”
Raphaël Jeune, Sport Manager:
“I’m delighted to welcome Célia, the reigning French time trial champion. Having the French national champion’s jersey in a team is always something special, and something we can be proud of. It shows that the Cofidis women’s team continues to grow. Célia also wants to perform and take the next steps in her career, and we’re delighted that she will do so with us. She is a very likeable person, a determined rider and a true professional. I’m sure she will make our colours shine next year!”
