The Cofidis Women’s Team lined up for the GP de Wallonie with a strong squad, ready to shine in any racing situation. On the cobbled roads of the course, the team’s solidarity made all the difference, resulting in a fine 6th place for Victoire Berteau at the summit of the Citadel of Namur.
Given the day’s wind conditions, the team had decided not to put anyone in the early breakaway. A group of six riders broke away, building a lead of up to five minutes at one stage of the race, but the team never panicked. The plan was clear: to really make their move at the crucial points from the halfway stage onwards.
Kristyna Burlova and Amalie Dideriksen put in a huge amount of work, enabling the team to stay well positioned alongside the top teams at the crucial moments, whilst Nikola Noskova took the opportunity to try her luck by attacking 15km from the finish.
At the foot of the climb to Namur Citadel, Mijntje Geurts and Nikola Noskova set up Victoire Berteau and Nadia Quagliotto in the best possible position, and Victoire went on to secure a fine 6th place, the result of a truly successful team effort.
Gaetan Lemoine’s reaction
“I’m very, very, very pleased, not just with the result, but with the team spirit and the way we raced today. It goes to show that we’ve got a great team as the season draws to a close. We’ve still got a few races left in Italy, but this is another good result.”
