The Cofidis team took responsibility on Wednesday’s Stage 17 of La Vuelta. The team committed to the chase to give Bryan Coquard another opportunity to contest the sprint. After 185 km of collective effort, Le Coq took 10th place in Seville.
It was the last real opportunity for the sprinters on this Vuelta. Between Dos Hermanas and Seville, two riders quickly went clear and built a lead of up to five minutes.
After initially leaving Visma Lease a Bike to control the chase, Cofidis took their share of responsibility in the second half of the race. The whole team contributed to gradually reducing the gap and bringing the breakaway back before the finish.
Bryan Coquard also picked up 15 points at the intermediate sprint.
With 12 km to go, only one rider remained out front with a one-minute advantage, before eventually being caught inside the final three kilometres.
In the finale, Alexis Renard worked to move Bryan back into position ahead of the sprint. After a huge effort from his teammates throughout the day, Bryan Coquard eventually crossed the line in 10th place.
