The second stage of the Tour du Limousin took place this Wednesday in the Dordogne, between Salignac-Eyvigues and Lanouaille. After a strong team effort throughout the 184.2 kilometres, Alex Aranburu went on the attack in the finale and took 3rd place on the stage. He also moved up to 3rd overall.
Five riders quickly went clear and built up a lead of up to five minutes. As on the previous day, Cofidis took responsibility in the peloton and played an active role in chasing down the breakaway.
The race really came to life in the final 25 kilometres, where most of the day's difficulties were concentrated. Alex Aranburu went on the attack several times, notably on the Côte de Génis, and joined a chasing group behind the last remaining rider from the breakaway.
Ewen Costiou eventually launched the decisive attack to take the victory in Lanouaille. At the front until the very end, Alex Aranburu took 3rd place on the stage and moved up to the same position in the general classification, 31 seconds behind the leader.

Benjamin Giraud, Sports Director :
“It was a tougher and more demanding second stage than yesterday. We controlled a large part of the day before reaching the final circuit, where all the difficulties were concentrated in the last 25 kilometres. That’s really where the race came to life.
We were proactive with Alex Aranburu, who was very strong today. Unfortunately, we came up against someone stronger and smarter than us in Ewen Costiou. We’re obviously a little disappointed to miss out on the stage win because we were hoping for more and I think we were capable of achieving more. We can take some consolation from Alex’s 3rd place after a huge effort from the whole team throughout the day.”
