Unfortunately, the days go by, but no two are alike on the Tour of Magnificent Qinghai. Weather conditions made for a very difficult race on Wednesday, July 15.

The peloton of the Tour of Magnificent Qinghai was in for a rough ride on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. During this fifth stage, contested in the rain and cold, the general classification standings were shaken up. Emanuel Buchmann was among the day’s casualties. Chilled to the bone, like much of the peloton, our German rider saw his chances of a strong overall finish slip away. But our riders aren’t done yet and will try to make their mark through Saturday.

The reaction

Gorka Gerrikagoitia: “It was a very difficult day with a stage contested in the rain and cold, with temperatures between 8 and 15 degrees all day. At an altitude of over 3,000 meters, it feels extremely cold. Right from the start, we had a long climb that peaked at 3,800 meters. Emanuel Buchmann was struggling a bit. He didn’t fall far behind the top riders and managed to stay with the leading group. The rest of the race took place on a plateau at 3,000 meters. The conditions weren’t easy. He was freezing. We even stopped to hand out rain jackets and whatever else was needed. He wasn’t able to stay at the front. We finished far from the win today and have lost any chance of contending for the general classification. It was a bad day for the team. It was tough for all the riders; everyone finished freezing.”
