The second stage of the Tour of Magnificent Qinghai ended in a sprint finish, just like the first day. Having already placed well yesterday, Alexis Renard confirmed his strong form by finishing sixth.
Another Top 10 finish for the Breton rider in China. After finishing 4th in the first stage of the Tour of Magnificent Qinghai, Alexis Renard finished 6th in the second stage on Sunday, July 12, 2026. During this stage—which saw Simon Carr, among others, try his luck in a breakaway—the peloton covered more than 220 km and climbed two Category 1 climbs reaching altitudes of over 3,000 meters.
The reaction
Gorka Gerrikagoitia, sports director: “It was a very long stage. We went into it expecting it to come down to a sprint finish, even though the stage route was very tough. Simon Carr was part of the breakaway but lost contact on the climb. We weren’t in a good position in the race. We tried to turn things around with other teams that weren’t represented at the front. At the finish, we played the Alexis Renard card. He finished 6th. He got boxed in on the left side and couldn’t find an opening. We missed a great opportunity to win today, but we’ll keep trying."
