The 2026 French Road Championships kicked off this Thursday in La Tour-du-Pin with the time trial. 29.7 km against the clock, against themselves, and against the sweltering heat. Under 38-degree temperatures, Marion Borras and Camille Charret set off on the road between Aoste and La Tour-du-Pin, chasing the iconic tricolore jersey.
Marion Borras lined up with podium ambitions, and even title ambitions. And the opening kilometres went her way: she led at the first intermediate checkpoint, strong and well on course for the tricolore jersey.
Unfortunately, a dropped chain forced her to change bikes at the worst possible moment, and with it, her podium hopes vanished. She finishes sixth, left with the frustration of a day that could have been so much more.
Camille Charret paid a heavy price in the extreme conditions of the day. Struck by heatstroke, he was forced to abandon. We wish him a speedy recovery.
