This Saturday, the Volta Catalunya Femenina peloton tackled its toughest stage yet, from Sant Vicenç de Castellet to La Molina. On the menu for these 130 kilometers: nearly 3200m of elevation gain and two key climbs, the Coll de la Batallola (11.6km at 3.2%) followed by the formidable Coll de la Creueta (21.2km at 5%), before a summit finish at La Molina.
The race came alive right from the foot of the Batallola, where two riders broke away to open up a one-minute gap on the peloton. On the Creueta, Malwina Mul and Nikola Nosková managed to position themselves at the front of the race.
On the final climb, Nikola Noskova made her move with an attack, before finding herself in a chase group alongside teammate Malwina Mul. At the summit of La Molina, Nikola Nosková ultimately crossed the line 11th on this queen stage, while Malwina Mul took 16th place.
Reaction from Arthur Quilliec, sports director:
« This was the queen stage of the Volta a Catalunya, with the heat even more intense than yesterday. The goal was to go for a top 10 with Nikola Noskova. As the day before, the whole team showed great composure to stay well positioned on a very demanding day, with 3400m of elevation gain and a tough finish at La Molina. Everything was decided on the final climb: Nikola fought for a strong 11th place, and Malwina took a solid 16th. This was one of her first tests in the mountains at this level, so a very positive stage for her progression. Overall, a great day for the team.»
