The Volta Ciclista Catalunya Femenina got underway this Friday with a first stage finishing in Santa Susanna over 92 kilometres. An animated finale and a strong team result for Cofidis.
The day was marked by several breakaway attempts, including a solo rider at the front with 30 kilometres to go. In the finale, a group of eight riders contested the sprint victory, following a crash that unfortunately brought down Kristyna Burlova one kilometre from the line. Despite that, Valentine Fortin perfectly timed her sprint to take 3rd place, right on the wheel of Marianne Vos. Malwina Mul rounds off the team's day with a solid 6th place.
Arthur Quilliec, sports director:
"We had a sprint finish on the agenda and the day went as planned. We managed the finale the way we wanted, with a great 3rd place for Valentine Fortin, behind two Visma Lease a Bike riders including Marianne Vos, who was really strong. Malwina Mul also finishes in the top 10 in 6th. Unfortunately Kristyna Burlova crashed one kilometre from the line, we hope she'll be able to start tomorrow. Overall, we managed the approach really well, the girls rode well and showed great solidarity in the finale. A pretty good day, despite Kristyna's crash."
