After a stage marked by difficult weather conditions, Alexis Renard sprinted to 8th place.
The Tour de Hongrie rolls on. Following yesterday’s thrilling stage—shaped by echelons and another podium finish for Alexis Renard—the riders were back in action today for a 152-kilometer route between Kaposvár and Szekszárd. There were no major climbs on the menu, aside from the ascent of Komló-Zobákpuszta (2 km at 4.7%), but one factor threatened to shake things up: the rain, offering a preview of what could await the peloton tomorrow.
Five riders went clear early on, but behind them the major teams carefully controlled the gap to avoid any surprises. The team also played its part in the chase. The expected scenario gradually unfolded, leaving the suspense to one question alone: which fast man would come out on top of the bunch sprint?
On soaked roads, every sprinter was trying to avoid one slip too many. Fortunately, no crashes were reported, allowing everyone to play their cards—including Alexis Renard, who has clearly been in strong form since his post-Roubaix break.
Our Breton sprinter secured another top-10 result by finishing 8th on the stage. Next up is the queen stage of this Tour de Hongrie tomorrow.
Reaction from our sports director on site, Roberto Damiani:
“Today’s route wasn’t especially difficult. The stage was clearly designed for the sprinters, and the big teams controlled the race well to make sure it came down to the fast men. However, the rain and wind definitely played the role of troublemakers.
We worked to put Alexis (Renard) in the best possible position, and he did his best. We’re satisfied—not only with the sprint, but also because we avoided crashes and problems. Tomorrow is another day: it will be our climbers’ turn to express themselves, and we’ll do everything we can to be active in the race.”
