In his first appearance at the Ronde van Vlaanderen, Edoardo Zamperini led a breakaway of nearly 200 km toward Oudenaarde.

On Sunday, April 5, 2026, the team headed to Belgium for the second Monument of the season. At the Ronde van Vlaanderen, Team Cofidis sought to anticipate the battle among the top contenders. In his debut at “the Ronde,” our Italian rider Edoardo Zamperini slipped into the day’s breakaway. His group, which broke away 250 km from the finish, saw the main favorites catch up in the final 80 kilometers. In the end, Edoardo Zamperini spent nearly 200 km in the breakaway.

The reaction

Sébastien Hinault, sports director: "Edoardo Zamperini was part of the first breakaway this morning. That was what he wanted, and what the team wanted. It allowed him to go a long way. He still lacks a bit of stamina in these long races. Today’s stage was nearly 290 km, including the virtual section. We saw a determined, courageous rider who just missed the group that finished in 13th place by a hair.
It was a race for champions today. The top five are the five best in the world at this kind of race. Our riders didn’t necessarily succeed today, but we still saw a great race from Zamperini."
