A 9th victory by a 7th different rider! Once again, a Cofidis rider has won this season. This time it was Jesus Herrada who raised his arms. The victory is even more beautiful as he is ahead of his team-mate Victor Lafay.
A victory more collective than ever
After a great collective work of the whole team, they were part of a group of around ten riders who took the lead of the peloton in the final climb of the Malate. After that, the attacks of Jesus and Victor made the difference and they signed a resounding double victory.
Jesus wins for the 17th time in his career. His last victory was last year in the Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana in Mallorca. This success confirms the good dynamics of the Cofidis team since the beginning of the season. The team that won on Friday will do everything to shine again tomorrow in the Tour du Jura.
Jesus Herrada (1st): "The whole group did a great job, especially (Axel) Zingle who put me in a good position before the climb, without forgetting Rémy (Rochas). Then Ruben (Fernandez) set a good pace on the first slopes of the climb before Victor (Lafay) made a big attack. After that, I just had to finish. I am the winner but it is the victory of the whole team. What's more, Victor and I did the double. It's perfect, we couldn't have hoped for more".
Jean-Luc JONROND, sporting director: "The whole team worked very well together. For a while, we took our responsibilities to ride. We knew that Victor, Remy and Jesus had a chance to shine. Hugo rode well at first, then Axel... At all levels of the rocket, it worked well. In the final that we had recognized the day before, Remy came back in extremis with the help of Ruben. Then Victor and Jesus attacked and they finished well. We finished as the best team of the day! We are very happy that Jesus is winning again. Tomorrow, the profile is less hard but we will try to have a good race and go for another victory!"
