During this 1st stage after the rest day, the Cofidis riders animated the beginning of the race. Nathan Haas, Marco Mathis, Stéphane Rossetto and Nicolas Edet tried their best to join the breakaway. Excellent sign for the rest of the Giro.
After a well-deserved day of rest and as the peloton continued its climb up to Northern Italy, the Cofidis team was keen to make a good start to the second part of the Giro. And the riders did not hesitate to do so.
A very active start of this stage
In the first kilometers, Marco Mathis tries to integrate the breakaway. Then, after 55 km, Stéphane Rossetto and Nicolas Edet joined the breakaway. Surprised by a split in the breakaway, they didn't manage to stay in the rhythm with the front-runners.
Then, they had to withstand the difficult conditions, especially because of the rain that fell on the course. Tomorrow, the ascent to the north of the country continues. 182 km to be covered on the way to Rimini. The finish is favorable for the sprinters and both Elia Viviani and Simone Consonni will be keen to put in their best effort.
